The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
